You can use the oil once or twice a day on your face and body.
While some might see immediate results from the first application, others may start noticing changes after a few weeks. Expect to see a transformation in your skin with consistent use over 8 to 12 weeks.
Essential oils, even in small dosages formulated in skincare products, can be extremely irritating to your skin, causing redness, sensitivity, and breakouts.
No, certain desired properties might be difficult or impossible to achieve with natural ingredients alone. Synthetics can be designed to deliver specific functions or enhance the effectiveness of natural ingredients.
Unplain Oil is non-comedogenic and acne-safe by design. We chose oils that are low on the pore-clogging scale (like jojoba, squalane, camellia) and we fermented them to enhance absorption, meaning they’re less likely to sit in pores. In our user trials, we did not observe increased breakouts – many acne-prone users actually found their skin calmer and more balanced. Of course, it’s always wise to patch test if you’re very prone to breakouts. Start with a small amount and see how your skin responds. Typically, properly hydrated skin (even with an oil) can lead to less oil production and fewer breakouts. Also, the oil contains ingredients that fight acne-causing bacteria and inflammation. So, the short answer: it shouldn’t cause breakouts, and it may even help prevent them. Just don’t over-apply – a few drops is enough.
Absolutely! It sounds counterintuitive, but using a lightweight oil can actually balance oily skin. When oily skin is stripped by harsh cleansers or toners, it overcompensates by producing more oil. By applying a nourishing oil, you’re sending a signal that your skin is moisturized and doesn’t need to pump out excess sebum. Unplain Oil absorbs completely and leaves a satin finish, so you won’t look shiny. We specifically avoided heavy, greasy oils. Many customers with oily or combination skin remark that this oil feels “dry” or weightless on their skin. If you’re nervous, start by using it as a nighttime moisturizer – you might wake up pleasantly surprised by the lack of grease and the presence of glow!
We haven’t added any fragrance, so the scent is very mild and natural. You might catch a hint of the raw ingredients – perhaps a slight earthy or nutty aroma from the seed oils and a whisper of fermented sweetness. There’s also a tiny bit of chamomile water in there, which can give a subtle herbal note. Overall, most people describe the scent as “barely there” or just “natural”. It does not linger on the skin. We prioritized skin tolerance over aromatic experience, so while it doesn’t have a spa-like perfume, your skin will thank you for the gentleness of a truly fragrance-free product.
First, the fermentation – most face oils are just blended oils. Ours goes a step further by fermenting with a probiotic, which increases absorption and adds microbiome benefits that standard oils don’t have.
Second, the ingredients – we’ve included a unique mix of exotic oils (Patented Camellia from Jeju Island) plus actives like mushroom extracts and alpha-glucan that typical oils don’t include. It’s really a hybrid between an oil and a serum.
Third, the formulation is extremely intentional: no fragrance, no filler silicones, just pure actives, making it suitable for sensitive skin (many face oils include essential oils which can irritate). Unplain Oil is a generous size and versatile.
In short, it’s a face oil re-imagined: more absorbent, more skin-friendly, and more multipurpose than most out there.
We designed the bottle with an orifice reducer (a small hole at the top under the cap) instead of a dropper.
This allows you to simply tip the bottle and dispense one drop at a time much like some serum bottles.
We chose this design for a couple of reasons: droppers exposed to air can cause the oil to oxidize faster and can introduce contaminants if not clean; plus, since we encourage body use, a dropper might not pick up enough product quickly.
With the reducer, you can get a few drops for face, or shake out more for body, in a controlled way.
Some find it a little different at first, but you’ll get the hang of tapping out or shaking the drops as needed. Think of it as the best of a dropper (precision) and a pour bottle (volume) combined.
Yes! It’s a bit of a bonus use, but our team and customers have used it on hair ends and loved it. Because it’s free of silicones, it won’t give that artificial slip, but it will nourish dry ends and tame frizz naturally. Rub a drop between your fingers and run through the ends of damp or dry hair. It’s especially great on curly or coarse hair to add shine and manageability. You can also massage a couple drops onto a flaky scalp patch as an overnight treatment (the anti-inflammatory ingredients like chamomile and probiotics can help with scalp irritation too). Just shampoo out in the morning if you use a larger quantity on the scalp. Remember it is an oil, so avoid applying too much near the roots if you want to maintain volume. But overall, feel free to experiment – we love multi-use, and this formula is pure and gentle enough for virtually any skin or hair that could use some nourishment!
